Spontaneous Day Tips

Parking:

Check in at the guard gate when you arrive. You will be directed where to park upon arrival.

Schedule:

• Arrive to setup your problem by 12:30pm (We will be ready for you at noon.)
• Your problem must be setup by 1:00pm
• Teams will snack at 3:00pm
• The event will end at 5:00pm

Please note the following tips to help you enjoy spontaneous day:

• Eat before you come, lunch will not be provided.
• There will be time for snacks that the team members brought.
• Parent attendance is not required. However, parent meetings will be held concurrent with the rotation through problems for part of the day. Parents in attendance will need to attend these meetings.
• We will provide you with a spontaneous problem:
  • Your "price of admission" is providing the materials for the problem we send to you.
    • You need to provide all materials for the problem.
    • You should also bring four printed copies of the problem.
    • Note that you need enough materials for eight teams. (It is often easiest to bag these materials in eight bags.)
  • You should practice the problem with your team ahead of time! It is important that you know how to run the problem. If you have questions, please ask.
• Your coach will run the problem on the day of the event. The team will rotate through eight other problems.

There are two main goals for spontaneous day:

• Teams will gain experience solving problems and have an opportunity to learn from other teams.
• Coaches will gain experience giving feedback to teams that come to their problems, and will get an idea how different teams approach different problems.
